PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Wesley College Men's and Women's Track and Field relay teams participated in the sport's biggest event this weekend, competing in the Penn Relays hosted by the University of Pennsylvania in nearby Philadelphia.
Both the men's and women's teams outshined the other NCAA Division III competitors at the event, and even showed up some Division I teams.
On the men's side, the Wolverines 4x100m relay team of De'Vaughn Trader, Anthony Simpson, DaJahn Lowery, and Greg Taylor finished 20th overall, with a time of 41.52. The Wolverines put up a time that ranks sixth in the nation at the Division III level, and beat regional Division I relay teams Navy and Rutgers.
In the 4x200m, Vicco Bedell, Simpson, Nick Stenderowicz, and Lowery combined to finish 12th overall with a 1:28.25 finishing time. The quartet of Wolverines finished in front of Division I competitors Indiana University and just behind Morgan State University and the University of Maryland.
Wesley also competed in the 4x400m relay, finishing 36th overall. The team of Bedell, Carlton Sheppard, Stenderowicz, and Lowery finished in a 3:18.12 mark that would qualify as 29th in Division III this season.
The Wesley women were just as impressive, competing in the 4x100m, 4x200m, and the Sprint Medley Championships. In the 4x100m, Evelina Sloboh, Elizsha Streeter, Angel Hall, and Alexia Mitchell combined to finish in 47.92, taking 37th in the event and posting a time that put them 13th in the nation in Division III. In the 4x200m, Streeter, Sloboh, Hall, and Briana Artis finished in 1:41.23 to take 23rd overall, finishing ahead of local Division I rival Delaware State. In the Sprint Medley Championships, the Wolverines finished in 24th overall. The combination of Hall, Mitchell, Streeter, and Dieunise Desir finished in 4:17.39.
The Navy and White will continue their quest to the NCAA National Championships when they take part in the Salisbury Rumble on May 7.
