Track & Field competes in the first day of CAC Indoor Championships

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Wesley College men's and women's track & field teams competed in the opening day of the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at Christopher Newport University. 

On the women's side, the first day was highlighted by Jourdyn Beverly retaining her conference title in the weight throw. After her first throw was a foul, Beverly followed up with a heave of 14.94 meters (49-0.25) to take first. Zekiah Fountain took fourth in the event with a throw of 13.83 meters (45-4.5). 

Daquay Harris-Winbush became the CAC Champion in the long jump with a leap of 6.99 meters (22-11.25). Myles Toppin finished in fourth in the long jump (6.57m, 21-6.75). 

Ashley Morris set a new CAC Championship meet record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.94 seconds. Shaniel Thomas (9.66) and Victoria Robinson (10.07) join Morris in the 60-meter hurdle finals.

Four women qualified for the 60-meter dash finals. Evelina Sloboh won the 60-meter preliminaries, clocking in at 7.84 seconds. Maysha Foster (7.90), Angel Hall (7.96) and Ashley Morris (8.12) also qualified for the finals. 

Christian Saulsbury placed second in the 60-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 7.00 seconds. Enoch Owumi qualified for the finals with an eighth-place finish in the prelims, finishing in 7.15 seconds. 

Three Wolverine men made it the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. Roland Attoh-Okine (8.30), Myles Toppin (8.57) and Javonte' Freeman (8.79) each qualified for tomorrow's final. 

The distance medley relay team of Ja'mier Bailey, Will Johnson, Jordan Dillard and Anthony Anastasi placed seventh with a time of 11:11.37.

The second day of the CAC Indoor Championships will start tomorrow at 10 a.m.
