Track & Field shows well at Morgan State Legacy Invitational

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Wesley College men's and women's track & field teams competed in the two-day Morgan State Legacy Invitational over the weekend.

Kai Cole performed well in the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the meet, placing third in both events. Cole clocked in at 10.46 seconds in the 100 and 21.05 seconds in the 200. Those times are the fastest times in the nation for both events. Cole, TySean Cousar, John Heriot and Isaiah Bodie teamed up to finish seventh in the 4x100-meter relay, finishing in 42.20 seconds.

Thomas Kalieta Jr. placed fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.72 seconds. Kalieta's time sits him third in the nation in the 400 dash.

Anthony Anastasi picked up a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:35.31). Javonte Freeman recorded a ninth-place time in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.36 seconds.

The field events impressed during the meet. Justin Cowgill won the javelin with a mark of 45.57 meters (149-6). After breaking the high jump record at the Eastern Shore Challenge on April 13, Brandon Faulk broke his own record in the high jump when he cleared 1.98 meters (6-6). Daquay Harris-Winbush notched a third-place effort in the long jump with a leap of 6.68 meters (21-11).

D'Shon Sanders and Estarlin Espinal went fifth and seventh respectively in the javelin. Sanders notched a mark of 29.50 meters (96-9) while Espinal threw the javelin 24.22 meters (79-5). Tyler Poulson and Jermaine Hull placed 10th in the shot put and long jump respectively.

On the women's side. Evelina Sloboh crossed the line in 12.39 seconds in the 100-meter dash.

Briana Artis registered a 19th and 20th place time in the 200- and 400-meter dashes. Artis clocked in at 26.10 seconds in the 200 and 59.41 seconds in the 400. Artis, Briyanna Woods, Lekeshia Brown-Myrick and Jontae Hankins notched a 10th-place time in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:16.02.

Victoria Robinson and Shaniel Thomas finished in 16th and 18th respectively in the 400-meter hurdles.

Jourdyn Beverly paced the field for the women with two top-10 finishes in the throws. Beverly recorded an eighth-place heave in the shot put (11.30m, 37-1) and 10th in the hammer (41.22m, 135-3).

Lekeshia Brown-Myrick finished 11th in the triple jump with a leap of 10.60 meters (34-9.5) and 15th in the long jump with a mark of 4.73 seconds (15-6.75). Teyri Reed registered a 14th place in the long jump with a mark of 4.77 meters (15-7.75) and 16th place in the triple jump with a jump of 9.75 meters (32-0). Robinson also placed 15th in the triple jump with a mark of 9.87 meters (32-4.75).

Wesley will have a short trip to Delaware State to compete in the Hornet Invitational on Tuesday.
