NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Wesley College track & field team competed at the 2019 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University.
The Wesley men placed in third at the championships, collecting 72 points at the meet. Rutgers-Newark picked up the team championship on both the men's and women's side.
Kai Cole and Thomas Kalieta Jr. won ECAC Championships in the 100- and 400-meter dashes. Cole won the 100 with a time of 10.88 seconds. Kalieta clocked in a time of 48.71 seconds to earn gold in the 400-meter dash. Kalieta also finished in second place in the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.61 seconds.
In the relays, Kalieta, Javonte Freeman, TySean Cousar and John Heriot picked up a win in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:18.60. Freeman, Cousar, Heriot and Isaiah Bodie finished the 4x100-meter relay in 43.17 seconds to notch a second-place finish.
Freeman and Heriot took home second place in the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash respectively. Freeman recorded a time of 14.71 seconds while Heriot crossed the line in 49.69 seconds. Bodie collected fourth in the 100- (10.97) and 200-meter dashes (22.58).
Briana Artis was the lone Wesley women representative at the meet and earned second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.69 seconds.
Wesley will now await the final qualifications for next week's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The qualifications will be released on Saturday. The three-day national meet begins on Thursday, May 23 from SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
