Wesley Opens 2009 at Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. - The Wesley College men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2009 season at the Wilmington Invitational.

The men's team finished 10th, while the women were 11th.

Kristine Bailey (Vancouver, Wash./Evergreen) was the top finsher for the Wolverine women, taking 30th in 24:10.  Kayla Sherwood was the team's next runner to complete the 5K with a time of 33:33 for 70th place.  Laura Cvelich (Plainfield, N.J./Koinonia Academy) claimed 71st in 35:15 one spot and seven seconds ahead of Lauren Koepper (Millersville, Md./Severna Park)Megan Bradley (Mardela Springs, Md./Mardela) rounded out the scoring with a 36:45, good for 73rd.

Jorge Granados (Rockville, Md./Wheaton) led the men's team in 66th place with a time of 37:26.  Senior John Clarke (Middletown, Del./Mater Dei) was the next Wolverines to finish the 8K event, taking 76th in 39:11.  Terry Harens-Walgreen was 70th in 40:24.  Doug Mullen and Kamran Karimov (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) rounded out the scorers.  Mullen was 82nd in 45:14 and Karimov was one spot back in 47:11. 

The Wolverines are idle next week before travelling to Salisbury, Maryland for the Don Cathcart Invitational on September 26.
