ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Wesley College men's and women's cross country teams ran well at the Capital Athletic Conference Championships hosted by St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday afternoon.
The Wesley men's team finished eighth out of 10 teams in the conference field, exceeding expectations from the preseason. Will Taylor Jr. finished as the first Wolverine across the line, finishing in in 26:57.9 for the fastest 8k time in Wesley men's cross country history. Jamier Bailey carded the third fastest time in school history with a 27:49.1. Carlton Sheppard was the third Wolverine to finish, coming in with a 28:49.0 while Myles Watson ran a 29:22.2. Christian Earle rounded out the Wesley top five with a 31:06.8.
The squad finished ahead of conference competitors Southern Virginia and PSU-Harrisburg, recording a 211 team score. The Wolverines finished just 10 points behind Frostburg State. Christopher Newport won the event outright with a team score of 26.
On the women's side, Dieunise Desir finished as the fastest Wolverine with a 23:56.4 in the 6k race. Danae Carter finished in 25:43.5 while Quadira Minus, Diandra Rhoden, and Elizsha Streeter finished within 30 seconds of each other, coming in at 26:43.4, 26:52.6, and 26:10.8, respectively.
Wesley carded a team score of 205 on the day, beating out CAC opponents St. Mary's and Frostburg State. Christopher Newport finished with five runners in the top eight to earn the outright win with a team score of 25.
