DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's softball team dropped a pair of Capital Athletic Conference games to Frostburg State on Sunday afternoon at DuPont Field.  The Wolverines (4-6, 0-2 CAC) fell in the opener, 7-0 before losing, 14-5 in the second game.

After allowing six runs in the first two innings of game one, starting pitcher Meghan McGonigle settled down and did not allow a run in the next three innings.  The Bobcats were able to get a run off reliever Nicole Piscopo in the sixth but Wesley left nine runners stranded and was unable to capitalize on eight base hits.  Just two of McGonigle's runs were earned as she allowed just nine hits and a walk in five innings.  Piscopo gave up just one run on four hits while fanning two in two innings of relief.

Ashlyn Booth had two of the Wolverines' hits in game one but six Wesley errors proved costly.

The first inning of game two also came back to bite Wesley as a pair of errors allowed Frostburg to take a 6-0 lead.  The Bobcats would tack on another in the second but the Wolverines came back with two runs in their half of the inning. Tamerra Starr started the rally with a single to center and Brynae Goodley reached on a free pass.  Ashly Bendorovich then sacrificed both runners over and Barranco doubled over the leftfielder's head to score both.

Taylor Hendricks relieved Piscopo to start the third inning and allowed a pair of runs but the Navy & White responded with another two-run inning. Piscopo and Booth were issued back-to-back one-out walks and a single by Starr loaded the bases for Goodley who singled home Piscopo.  Hendricks then reached on a fielder's choice allowing Booth to score.

Hendricks cruised through the next three innings without allowing a run but not before the Wolverines tacked on another run in the fifth.  Booth led off the inning with a double to right field which bounced off the top of the right field wall and back into the field of play.  A single by Goodley advanced Booth to third and she later scored on a throwing error by the third baseman.

Frostburg got back on the board with a five-run seventh to put the game out of reach.

Starr and Goodley both went 2-3 with a run scored in game two while Barranco hit 2-for-3 with two RBIs.  Booth scored two of Wesley's five runs in the game while Shannon Wright recorded a base hit, a sac bunt and a stolen base.

The Wolverines will look to get back on the winning track when they host Widener in a 3 pm doubleheader on Tuesday, March 13 at DuPont Field.
