DOVER, Del. - Wesley College's softball team got back to .500 on the season with a doubleheader sweep over Rosemont College on Monday afternoon. The Wolverines (13-13) took the opener, 6-3, before run-ruling the Ravens, 10-2, in game two.
Taylor Hendricks and Meghan McGonigle earned complete game victories for the Navy & White as both gave up just one earned run in their appearances. McGonigle matched her season-high with five strikeouts and allowed just three hits while Hendricks allowed seven hits and struck out one.
After falling behind 2-0 after the top of the second, Wesley took the lead in its half of the inning on RBI hits by Barton, Barranco and McGonigle.
Barton led off the fifth with her first home run of the season and Booth and Nicole Piscopo followed up with RBIs later in the inning.
The Wolverines bats were working early in game two as they scored three in the first and two in the second to take a 5-1 lead. Wesley then put a crooked five on the board in the third to put the game out of reach. After Ashly Bendorovich and Hendricks reached safely to start the inning, Piscopo drove in both players with a double to left center. After a pair of outs, Barton singled to drive in Piscopo and Booth hit her team-leading eighth roundtripper of the season to put the mercy-rule into effect.
Booth went 3-3 with four RBIs and a pair of runs in game two while Barton and Piscopo drove in another two runs apiece. Barranco also had a pair of hits in the second game.
Two days from now, Wesley will travel to Briarcliffe (N.Y.) for a 3:30 pm doubleheader on Wednesday, April 4.
