DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's softball team dropped a pair of games to Capital Athletic Conference rival Stevenson University on Saturday afternoon at DuPont Softball Field. The Wolverines (13-18-1, 1-11 CAC) dropped the opener, 6-1 before falling, 5-0 in game two.
In the opener, Stevenson (14-20, 4-8 CAC) scored one in the first, two in the third and one more in the fourth off Wesley pitcher Meghan McGonigle to open a 4-0 lead. The Wolverines got one back in the fourth on an RBI by Taylor Hendricks but the Mustangs added two in the seventh off Nicole Piscopo to put the game out of reach.
Samantha Barker collected two of Wesley's five hits in the opener while Jessica Barranco, Nikki Barton and Piscopo each had one. Ashlyn Booth scored the Navy & White's run in the fourth after drawing a walk, advancing to second on a Barton base hit and getting to third on a Piscopo sacrifice bunt.
Katie Diller allowed one run on five hits in the complete game win for the Mustangs.
In game two, Hendricks made the start in the circle and allowed just two earned runs on five hits in 4.2 innings. Unfortunately, Wesley's bats did not help her as she also collected the team's lone hit in the second game.
Briana Pichalski went the distance for Stevenson in the finale, earning the victory.
The Wolverines return to action when they host Arcadia on Tuesday, April 17, for a 3 pm doubleheader.
