DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College Softball team opened the day in great fashion by beating Swarthmore College 7-0, before dropping their second contest Sunday afternoon to split with Swarthmore College at DuPont Field.
Nina Marcano led the Wolverines' lineup on the day with three hits. Marcano and senior third baseman Kayla Fromal each finished with two RBI apiece. In the game one victory Lily Engel earned the win from the circle, while Lindsay Siok picked up the save. The duo only gave up 5 hits in the win.
In the first contest, the Wolverine bats opened the first inning scorching hot, knocking in four runs early. Nina Marcano started it off by hitting a single to right field, bringing home Breanna Hartman. A Swarthmore fielding error caused by the bat of Lauren Hoffman allowed Marcano to cross home. Fromal then hit home Devin Mackay and Hoffman with a two-run single. Hoffman and Hartman both ripped triples in the game to help the Wolverines shut out the Garnet.
In game two the Wolverines bats cooled off. Swarthmore's big second and third innings led to the game ending early for the Navy and White. The Garnet knocked in seven in the top of the second and added three more in the third for the 10-0 advantage. Freshman Sydney Botsch started the game on the hill for the Wolverines and struck out two of the Garnet hitters. Destiny Davis and Siok also made appearances during the game. The Wolverines had four hits in the game with one each from Hartman, Marcano, Mackay, and Fromal.
The Wolverines will next pack their bags and sunscreen as they travel to Clermont, FL to play Milsaps and Mulhenberg on March 7. These will be the first two games during their 5 day stay, participating "The Springs Games" down in Clermont.
