CLERMONT, Fla. - The Wesley College Softball team began their spring break by taking on a pair of teams in a Florida doubleheader. The Wolverines enjoyed the beautiful weather, but not the results, falling 3-2 to Millsaps College and going on to a 9-1 loss against Muhlenberg later in the day.
In game one, Ashley Royer went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI to lead the offense. The freshman ripped a double down the right field line and crushed a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to cut into the Majors' lead.
Lindsay Siok pitched well but took the loss. The junior hurled five innings, allowing three runs on just two hits while whiffing four batters. Sydney Botsch threw the final inning for the Wolverines, a scoreless frame that included a strikeout.
Game two didn't go Wesley's way either, as Muhlenberg used 14 hits and capitalized on two Wesley errors to score nine runs on their way to a 9-1 win. Royer drove in Wesley's only run of the game in the bottom of the first. Samantha Burns led off with a single and came around to score on a Royer single later in the inning.
Botsch earned the start in the Wolverines' second game, twirling 4.1 innings and allowing five earned runs. Destiny Davis made an appearance before Lily Engel shut down the Mules in the fifth, throwing 0.2 innings without allowing a run.
The Wolverines move to 2-4 on the year and will return to action on Tuesday, taking on Waynesburg at 3:00 p.m.
