CLERMONT, Fla. - The Wesley College Softball team bounced back from a pair of losses on their first day of competition in The Spring Games to earn an 8-0 victory over Waynesburg College on Tuesday afternoon in Florida.
Nina Marcano went 4-for-4 from the plate with two doubles and four RBI while Breanna Hartman went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, and three stolen bases. Morgan Seymour went 2-for-2 with an RBI as well.
Lily Engel and Destiny Davis combined for the shutout. Engel drew the start going four strong innings allowing just four hits and striking out three. Davis pitched a pair of efficient innings, allowing just three hits and no runs.
The Wolverines tacked on three runs in the bottom of the first. Samantha Burns and Hartman each singled to start the Wesley attack before Marcano drove home Burns with a double to deep center. Ashley Royer followed with an RBI single and Marcano came in on a Devin Mackay groundout to make it 3-0.
In the fourth, Wesley added four more runs, stringing together a bunch of singles to manufacture their offense. Six consecutive Wolverines ripped singles to plate four runs in the inning, giving Engel and Davis plenty of cushion.
Wesley finished off Waynesburg in the bottom of the sixth by stringing together four more hits. Seymour, Burns, and Hartman each singled before Marcano ended the game with an RBI single, giving the Wolverines the 8-0 win in six innings.
Wesley is now 3-4 on the year and will return to action on Wednesday with a pair of early evening contests. The Wolverines battle Meredith College at 5:00 p.m. before taking on PSU-Brandywine at 7:00 p.m.
