Wolverines Outslugged by Frostburg in Doubleheader

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Wesley College Softball team took a few lumps on the day, falling in both of their games against Capital Athletic Conference rival Frostburg State University 9-1 and 13-8.

Kayla Fromal went 5-for-6 on the day including a home run and a double. The senior drove in a pair of runs and scored three runs. Samantha Burns went 5-for-8 on the day with two runs scored and one run batted in.

The Wolverine offense was stymied in game one as they were limited to just one run on eight scattered hits. Wesley's lone game one score came in the third inning when Burns led off with a single, was sacrificed to second by Breanna Hartman and came in two batters later on a single by Ashley Royer.

Frostburg scored once in the first, four times in the second, and added two runs in the fourth and fifth to take game one 9-1 by run rule in five innings.

Game two the Wolverines were much more competitive, using 14 hits to plate eight runs. The Navy and White took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning sending 11 batters to the plate in the frame. Burns led off with a triple and came home on a walk three batters later. Devin Mackay and Nina Marcano each ripped RBI singles before Casey Beall drew an RBI walk and Burns slapped an RBI single in her second at-bat of the inning, making it 5-0.

The Bobcats plated six runs in the bottom of the first but Wesley tied the game with a run in the top of the second. Fromal led off the inning and crushed one over the fence, tying the game at 6-6. The Wolverines fell behind 10-6 in the second but fought back with two more runs in the fourth. Hartman and Fromal ripped back-to-back doubles to make it 10-7, and then Fromal scored on a Marcano RBI single to make it 10-8. The Bobcats went on to score four unanswered to pull away with the 14-8 victory.

The Wolverines move to 10-10 on the season with a 3-3 mark in CAC play. The squad will return to action on Saturday, April 9 when they host Penn State Harrisburg for a doubleheader and celebrate Senior Day.
