MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Wesley College softball continued their week-long spring break trip on Thursday with a doubleheader sweep of Regis (Mass.) and SUNY Poly.
In the first game, Wesley picked up a 9-1 win over the Regis Pride in five innings.
Wesley got off to a hot start scoring three runs in the first and a run in second. Karina Cardona doubled home Devin Mackay to get the first run on the board in the first. Two batters later, Lindsay Siok knocked a two-run single to left center field to plate Cardona and Nina Marcano. In the second, Samantha Burns scored Megan DiRubbio on a single up the middle.
After Regis scored a run in the top of the fourth, Wesley rifled off three runs in the bottom of the fourth. DiRubbio opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth when she came around to score on an error by the third baseman. Three batters later, Marcano smacked a triple to right field to score Cardona and Mackay.
Siok earned her fifth win of the season, pitching all five innings for Wesley. Siok sat down three batters while only allowing six hits and an unearned run.
Devin Mackay pitched a 3-0 shutout against SUNY Poly in the second game to clinch the doubleheader sweep.
Marcano powered Wesley with a two-run homer in the third inning. Wesley scored their third run with two outs in the seventh when Mackay singled home Burns from second base.
The Wolverines (8-2) will wrap up their Myrtle Beach trip tomorrow when they take on the Hilbert Hawks and the Anna Maria Amcats. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
