DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College softball team dropped a pair of games in a tri-match on Saturday to the sixth-ranked Virginia Wesleyan Marlins and the Immaculata Mighty Macs.
Virginia Wesleyan downed Wesley 8-0 in the opener of the tri-match. Strong pitching from the Marlins held the Wolverines to just two hits in the game.
Hannah Hull struck out 12 batters in the win for the Marlins.
Wesley unable to hold a lead in the finale of the tri-match against Immaculata as they fell 10-9.
The Wolverines took the early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run homer to center field by Ashley Royer.
Immaculata tied the game at two after scoring in the second and fourth innings but Wesley pushed five runs across in the bottom of the fourth. Immaculata then cut the lead to 7-5 in the fifth inning. Wesley responded by stretching the lead to 9-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Immaculata tallied two runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh to overtake Wesley and steal the win.
The Wolverines (10-4) will be back in action on Sunday when they host the Widener Pride in a doubleheader at DuPont Field starting at 1 p.m.
