DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College softball team dropped a pair of Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) games to the No. 20 Christopher Newport Captains on Saturday.
A five-run fourth inning propelled the Captains over the Wolverines, 6-3 in the first game of the doubleheader.
After falling behind 6-0 heading to the fourth, the Wolverines showed their might by plating a run in the fourth and two in the fifth and shutting the Captains down in the final frames.
Mackay led the Wolverines at plate going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Lindsay Siok went 2-for-2 and also struck out four Captains while Marcano also notched two hits. Lily Engel pitched three innings of scoreless relief for the Wolverines.
Early runs in game two lifted the Captains over the Wolverines, 7-2.
The Wolverines scored both of their runs in the bottom of the third inning. After a Siok leadoff single and a Burns sacrifice bunt. Marcano plated Siok from second with a single up the middle. Following a Marcano stolen base, Mackay knocked a single to right field to allow Marcano to cross home plate.
The Wolverines (10-8, 0-2 CAC) will host the Delaware Valley Aggies on Sunday in an non-conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
