Softball powers through St. Joseph to open Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Wesley College softball team clipped the St. Joseph (Conn.) Blue Jays 14-5 in five innings on Sunday to open the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Wesley scored a run in every inning and tallied 17 hits. Eight of the nine starters for Wesley registered a hit in the run-rule win.

Bianca Newsom and Ashley Royer both went a perfect 4-for-4 in the victory. Royer scored four times, drove in three runs and smacked two doubles. Newsom recorded four RBIs and three runs scored, including hitting an inside-the-park three-run home run to left field in the fourth inning.

Brandi Dalious, Dori Loukopoulos and Karina Cardona each picked up two hits in the win. Cardona knocked in four runs. Amanda Curry came around to score three times for the Wolverines.

Loukopoulos collected her third win on the mound, only allowing one earned run and four Blue Jay hits in three innings of work. Juli Neel finished off the game with two innings of shutout relief with three strikeouts.

The Wolverines (4-2) will play a doubleheader tomorrow, first taking on the Spalding Eagles and finishing up with the Albertus Magnus Falcons. The first game is scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. first pitch.
