Softball falls in doubleheader to Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – The Wesley College softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep to the Salisbury Sea Gulls in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) doubleheader.

Due to the inclement weather forecast, the games were played at Salisbury Sea Gull Stadium with Wesley being the home team.

Wesley fell 9-2 in the first game of the doubleheader to Salisbury.

With Wesley trailing 3-0 in the third inning, Amanda Curry got Wesley on the board when she came around to score from third when Dori Loukopoulos reached on a fielder's choice.

Wesley cut the Salisbury lead to 3-2 in the fourth inning when Megan DiRubbio hit an RBI single to left field to bring home Karina Cardona.

Salisbury scored six runs in the latter innings to seal the win in the doubleheader opener.

DiRubbio tallied two hits and an RBI while Loukopoulos, Cardona, Curry Brandi Dalious, Miranda Kinney each notched a hit in the loss.

Wesley scored three runs in the fifth inning but fell to Salisbury, 11-3 in the finale of the doubleheader.

After DiRubbio led off the fifth with a single down the left field line and stole second base, Dalious drove her in with an RBI infield single to the shortstop. A batter later, Ashley Royer knocked in Bianca Newom with an RBI single to left field. Cardona followed with an RBI to plate Loukopoulos.

Royer and Cardona both went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the second game. Loukopoulos and DiRubbio both scored and notched a hit.

The Wolverines will hit the road to battle the Southern Virginia Knights in a CAC doubleheader on Saturday. The action from Buena Vista, Va. will start at 1 p.m.
