ST DAVID'S, Pa. – The Wesley College softball team fell to the Eastern Eagles, 8-7 in non-conference action on Tuesday. The second game of the doubleheader was called in the bottom of the fourth due to darkness and did not get through enough innings to be official.
Wesley got on the board first in the top of the second inning when Brooke Retkowski scored with the bases loaded when Megan DiRubbio reached on an error by the shortstop. Eastern responded with four runs in the bottom half of the second.
Wesley tied it up at four in the third inning. Retkowski plated two runs with a single down the right-field line to score Karina Cardona and Dori Loukopoulos. Later in the inning, Miranda Kinney tagged from third to score on an Amanda Curry sacrifice fly.
Kinney put Wesley up 7-4 in the fourth inning when she belted her first collegiate home run on a three-run shot to left field.
Eastern took the 8-7 lead in the bottom of the fourth and Wesley couldn't sustain a rally in the final three innings of the game.
Kinney went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs batted in and two runs scored for Wesley. Retkowski drove in two runs on two hits and scored a run. Cardona and Loukopoulos came around to score twice in the loss.
The Wolverines will resume conference play on Friday when they host the Penn St. Harrisburg Lions in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. Prior to the game, the Wolverines will honor Lauren Hoffman for Senior Day.
