LANCASTER, Pa. – The Atlantic East Conference announced the first-ever preseason coaches' poll on Thursday for the upcoming inaugural season and the Wesley College softball team were picked to finish in a tie for fifth place with the Marywood Pacers.
Wesley and Marywood each received 10 points in the poll. Defending Colonial States Athletic Conference Champion Immaculata secured the top spot in the poll with 24 points and four first-place votes. Neumann was selected to finish second with 20 points while Gwynedd Mercy came in third with 14 points. Neumann and Gwynedd Mercy split the final two first-place votes. Cabrini earned 12 points in the poll to come in at fourth in the poll.
Wesley finished the 2018 season 13-17-2 overall and 3-10-1 in their final season in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). Losing only one senior to graduation, Wesley returns a solid group of upperclassmen under eighth-year head coach Juli Greep.
Key to their success will be the play of two-time National Fastpitch Association All-Region and two-time All-CAC player Ashley Royer, who led the team and finished third in the CAC in batting average with .446. Royer led the Wolverines with 45 hits, 10 doubles and a triple. Former All-CAC outfielder Megan DiRubbio also returns to the team in 2019 after hitting .314 and leading the team in stolen bases with 14.
Wesley opens the season on Saturday, Feb. 23 when they host the Swarthmore Garnet at DuPont Softball Field.
