Anderson sets single-game strikeout mark on final day in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Wesley College softball team wraps up their final day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach with a win over the Rivier Raiders and a close loss to the Guilford Quakers on Thursday.

Game 1 – Wesley 6, Rivier 1

Freshman pitcher Jessica Anderson set a new program record for strikeouts in a game with 11 in a complete-game four-hitter as Wesley open the day with the 6-1 win over the Rivier Raiders.

After getting runs in the first and third innings, Wesley broke the game open with a four-run sixth inning. After back-to-back walks to load the bases, Alexis Howerin came through with a two-run single through the left side that scored Brooke Retkowski and Abbey Mayse.

Following a double steal by Howerin and Megan DiRubbio, Ashley Royer cleared the bases with a two-run single of her own to give Wesley the 6-1 lead.

Anderson had a perfect game going through three innings and a no-hitter for 5.2 innings before Rivier scratched a run across in the seventh inning with two outs.

Ashley Royer paced the offense with a 3-for-3 day at the plate with two RBIs. Alexis Howerin drove in two runs and scored twice. Megan DiRubbio also came around to score twice from the leadoff spot.

Game 2 – Guilford 3, Wesley 2

Wesley couldn't sustain the momentum from the morning game as they dropped their final game in Myrtle Beach, 3-2 to the Guilford Quakers

Wesley (3-7) will be back in action on Thursday, March 14 when they travel to Pennsylvania to take on the Penn St. Harrisburg Lions in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
