DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College softball team rolled through the Rosemont Ravens in a non-conference doubleheader at home on Saturday.
Game 1 – Wesley 11, Rosemont 2
Wesley broke out the bats early in game one when Jessica Anderson contributed to her own cause when she crushed a grand slam, which was her first collegiate hit and home run. Anderson's grand slam would put Wesley up 4-0 in the bottom of the second inning.
Wesley put the game out of reach in the fourth inning when the Wolverines batted around and scored seven runs in the inning. Rosemont scored two runs in the fifth inning but Anderson would stymie the Rosemont rally to secure the run-rule win.
On the mound, Anderson sat down five batters while only gave up four hits and two unearned runs in the complete-game victory.
Game 2 - Wesley 12, Rosemont 1
Just like game one, Wesley got out to an early lead. This time the scoring was started by Loukopoulos, who smacked a single right back up the middle that brought home Karina Cardona to give Wesley the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Royer fueled Wesley's nine-run second inning with her second two-RBI double of the afternoon. Bianca Newsom added a two-RBI double of her own in the inning when she ripped a hit over the third baseman's glove and trickled down the left field line that brought home Alexis Howerin and Abbey Mayse.
On the mound, Mayse recorded two strikeouts, scattered two hits and only gave up one unearned run in the complete-game win.
In game two, Loukopoulos led the Wolverine offense with three hits and three RBIs. Newsom and Cardona joined Loukopoulos as the only other multi-hit performers. Newsom added three RBIs while Cardona and Royer batted in two runs each.
On the day, Loukopoulos paced Wesley's offense with five hits. Loukopoulos along with Royer tallied four RBIs respectively. Royer and Cardona combined for three hits in both games. As a team, Wesley totaled 12 stolen bases. Howerin swiped five bases from the Ravens, followed by Newsom who had three stolen bases.
Wesley (7-7) will host the Widener Pride on Tuesday, Mar. 19 in an afternoon doubleheader. First pitch from DuPont Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
