Softball falls in Atlantic East Championship Series to Neumann

ASTON, Pa. – The fifth-seeded Wesley College softball team's run in the Atlantic East Conference Championship Tournament ended in the second game of the best-of-three championship series on Saturday with a 5-0 loss to the top-seeded Neumann Knights.

Wesley fell behind by two runs in the first inning when Neumann capitalized on a Wesley error earlier in the inning and Kierstin Fallers hit a two-RBI single with two outs.

Neumann added another unearned run in the fourth inning when Kristina Del Gaiso hit an RBI single to plate Fallers from second base. A bases-loaded walk in the fifth inning and an RBI triple by Fallers pushed Neumann's lead to 5-0.

Wesley looked to rally in the final three innings of the game. Wesley got two runners on in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings but Neumann's Nicole Wisser worked out of each of the Wesley threats.

Brooke Retkowski led the Wesley offense with two hits in three plate appearances.

Dori Loukopoulos added a hit at the plate. On the mound, Loukopoulos pitched 4.2 innings of work. She allowed five hits, four runs (one earned), three walks and a strikeout. Jessica Anderson closed out the final 2.1 innings of the game, only giving up a run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Wesley finishes the 2019 season with a 19-22 overall record and runners-up in the Atlantic East Conference.
