No. 6 Mary Washington Too Much for Wesley

DOVER, Del. - Despite jumping out to an early five point lead, the Wesley College Women's basketball team fell to powerful Mary Washington 74-46 behind 23 points from the Eagles 6-3 center Liz Hickey. Hickey also had five blocks in the game which gave her the NCAA Division III career lead in blocks with 487 in her career.

Wesley (12-12, 8-7 CAC) lost the lead for good at 14:22 of the first half on a jumper by the Eagle's Lisa Tracey. Mary Washington (22-2, 14-1 CAC) built their lead to 16 as Wesley went scoreless for just over 7 minutes in the half.

Up as much as 20 in the first half, Mary Washington held a 14 point lead at buzzer. Leading the Wolverines was reserve Ashley Barker who hit two three pointers. Corey Boyd followed with five first half points.

In the second half it was more Mary Washinton as Wesley's shooting hit the skids. Wesley shot just 27 percent from the floor in the second half including a paltry 1-10 from behind the arc.

Hickey broke the old mark of 485, held by another player from the CAC, former Marymount standout Cori Carson (1997).

Wesley's Corey Boyd continued to battle, netting seven second half points to finish with a dozen and added five assists and three boards. Wolverine forward Herbie Rayne contributed eight points in the loss.

Wesley next home game is Saturday, February 23 at 2:00 p.m. when they host St. Mary's (Md.).
