DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's women's basketball team made the short trip to Division I Delaware State University and dropped a 79-37 decision to the Lady Hornets on Monday evening at Memorial Hall. The Wolverines now stand at 4-13 overall while Delaware State moves to 5-13.
Karen Wearden scored a team-high 14 points for Wesley, who was outshot 46.9% to 32.6%, while Brionna Johnson added seven. Roniece Williams and Kiara Johnson also chipped in with six points and two steals apiece.
Williams gave the Wolverines an early 3-0 lead, hitting a 3-pointer just 13 seconds into the game. After DSU's Raven Bankston answered with a bucket, Brionna Johnson converted on a layup to extend Wesley's lead back to three with 17:17 left in the opening period.
From there it was all Lady Hornets, who went on a 22-4, run that lasted nearly ten minutes.
Bankston led all players with 28 points while Deanna Harmon notched a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
The Wolverines host Marymount (Va.) on Wednesday, January 29 at 6 pm.
