Women's Basketball Wins Nail-biter at SVU

BUENA VISTA, Va. – Tiara White scored a game high 26 points while Brionna Johnson added her eighth double-double (22 points, 17 rebounds) in as many games to lead the Wolverines to a 76-75 win over the Southern Virginia University Knights on Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines advance 4-3, 2-1 in CAC action, while the Knights fall to 2-7, 0-3.

Johnson and White were the only Wolverines to score in double figures but Tiyanna Gibbs six steals and Roniece Williams' seven assists were enough to lead the game in the respective categories.

The Wolverines led by three points going into the half but Crystal Cleveland made four points in the opening minutes of the second half to bring the Knights within one point. The Wolverines then scored 22 points to the Knights' nine to give the Wolverines a 14 point lead with under ten minutes left in the game.

The Knights would fight back, scoring 24 points in the final nine minutes. Johnson sunk a free throw with four seconds left in the game to give the Wolverines a four point lead. This free throw kept the game from becoming tied when SVU's Melynda Boren would make a three-pointer two second later to end the game with a one point Wesley lead.

Wesley returns home on Sunday, December 14 when it hosts Christopher Newport University at 4 PM in Wentworth Gymnasium.
