SALISBURY, Md. – Wesley College's women's basketball team fell at No. 11 Salisbury University, 66-49 on Wednesday night at Maggs PAC. The loss drops the Wolverines to 7-8 overall and 3-6 in the Capital Athletic Conference while the Sea Gulls improve to 15-1 with a 9-0 mark in league play.
Tiyanna Gibbs hit a pair of free throws to start the game, giving Wesley its only lead at 2-0 but it was all Salisbury from there. The Sea Gulls went on a 15-0 run before Brionna Johnson made a trio of free throws, followed by another 18-straight SU points as the Sea Gulls took a 46-14 lead at the half.
Despite the deficit, Wesley continued to fight throughout the second half as Johnson scored 16 of her game-high 19 points in the period. Johnson finished the night 4-of-9 from the floor and 10-of-13 from the stripe while Roniece Williams added nine points.
Salisbury had three players in double figures, led by Julia McLaughlin with 16. Anna Hackett added 14 and Sarah Seipp chipped in with 11.
The Wolverines return to action on Saturday, January 24 at 1 pm when they host Southern Virginia University.
