Women’s Hoops Never Trails in CAC Win Over Southern Virginia

DOVER, Del. – Freshman Tiyanna Gibbs and Alexus Stroud scored 19 points each while Brionna Johnson and Tiara White notched double-doubles as the Wesley College women's basketball team defeated Southern Virginia, 83-65 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Wentworth Gymnasium.  The Wolverines even their record at 8-8 overall with a 4-6 mark in the CAC while the Knights fall to 4-12 on the year and 2-8 in league play.

Gibbs and Stroud's 19 points are both career-highs at Gibbs was on fire in the first half with 15 points and three triples in the opening period.  Ten of Stroud's points came in the second half as both newcomers had three triples in the game.

The Nation's leader in double-doubles, Johnson added another to her total with 13 points, 18 rebounds along with six assists and four steals.  White added 14 points and 11 boards.

Wesley scored the game's first 14 points, eight of which came off the fingertips of Gibbs who sunk two treys in the first 2:56.  The Wolverines soon extended the lead to 20 and up to 42-12 with 5:58 left in the first half before going into halftime with a 52-20 advantage.

The lead stayed above 30 points until the final six minutes when Southern Virginia closed the gap but the lead was too much to overcome.

Wesley returns to action on Monday, January 26 when it travels to Rowan for a 7 pm non-conference tilt.
