Wolverines Stumped by St. Mary's

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Wesley College women's basketball team fell to their Capital Athletic Conference opponents St. Mary's College of Maryland, dropping their game against the Seahawks 57-43 on Saturday afternoon in Southern Maryland.

Tuyanna Gibbs led the way with 12 points and six rebounds while Alexus Stroud added 10 points and six rebounds. Brionna Johnson led the team with seven rebounds but was held to a season-low six points. Adriane Fraser added seven points off the bench in the contest.

Wesley trailed early in the first quarter as the Seahawks opened the game on a 10-3 run. The squad battled back with a Gibbs layup and a Fraser three to cut it to 10-8 before the end of the frame.

In the second quarter, Wesley kept the score close for the first five minutes. The Seahawks opened the game over the next 3:13 though, going on a 13-0 run over that span to take a 29-12 lead. The Wolverines finished the quarter with a pair of field goals to cut it to 29-16 at the half.

In the fourth, Wesley continued to battle but had fallen too far behind to make a comeback possible. The squad cut into the Seahawks lead with Alexus Stroud scoring seven of the team's 17 points in the quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. On the final basket of the contest, Stacey O'Neale netted her first career bucket.

Wesley falsl to 1-6 on the season with a 1-2 mark in the CAC. The squad will travel to St. Petersburg, Fla. over the holiday break to take part in the St. Pete's Classic. Wesley will take on Westminster (Mo.) on December 18 before battling Alverno on December 19.
