Blue and White Fall On Road To Eagles

Dover, Del. – Tough battle ends in defeat today for the Wolverines as they hit the road to take on conference foe Mary Washington. Monshea Newsome-Murray came out strong sinking the first two baskets for the Wolverines with 06:57 left to play in the first quarter. The sophomore went 7-16 from the floor, shooting 53.8% in the first half. Newsome-Murray earned nine points and one rebound in the first half.


The first quarter ended, 13-19, with the Wolverines down by six. In the start of the second quarter Stacey O'Neale sunk two threes to bring the Wolverines within three of the Eagles. Wesley fought hard for the lead, but ended the first half 28-32, looking to come out tough in the second.


Monshea Newsome-Murray led the squad in points, notching 15 on the day. Brionna Johnson and Alexus Stroud recorded double digits with 13 apiece. Johnson led the team with 9 rebounds and caused one turnover against the Eagles. Stroud went 5-9 from inside the paint, shooting 55.6% against the Eagles.


The third quarter started with two back to back layups from the Eagles. Two baskets from inside the paint by Newsome-Murray and a sunken shot from behind the line from Johnson brought the Wolverines within one of the Eagles, 35-36. Wesley ended the third quarter down by two to Mary Washington, 43-45. Within the first minute of the fourth quarter Johnson sunk another three to put the Wolverines up 46-45. Wesley battled for the lead throughout most of the game, but ended up falling to Mary Washington 61-72.


Wesley will continue their three-game road trip against the Seagulls of Salisbury on Wednesday night at 6:00pm.
