DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College women's basketball team came up with an 83-74 win over the Southern Virginia University Knights in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) contest on Saturday at Wentworth Gymnasium.
The Wolverines started off slow and trailed the Knights 27-17 in the first quarter but the Wolverines slowly chipped away before the end of the first half. The Wolverines pushed the deficit to just six when they went into halftime.
The Knights clung to a 64-57 lead at the end of the third quarter. But, the Wolverines used a 20-4 run to start the fourth quarter to pull ahead of the Knights and seal the victory.
Four Wolverines recorded double-digit points in the win. Senior forward Brionna Johnson led the Wolverines with her fourth double-double of the season. Brionna Johnson tallied a team-high 18 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
Junior guard Alexus Stroud collected 17 points, including going 9-of-12 from the charity stripe. Stroud also added five rebounds and four assists. Fellow junior Lindsey Better totaled 11 points off the bench.
Sophomore Stacey O'Neale converted four field goals, three of which were behind the three-point line to collect 11 points for the Wovlerines.
The Knights were led by Kimberly Eads and Kelsey Johnson, who had 22 and 20 points respectively.
The Wolverines (7-10, 3-7 CAC) will head to Maryland to take on the St. Mary's Seahawks in CAC action on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
