ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Wesley College women's basketball team stumbled on the road against the St. Mary's Seahawks, 56-51 in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action on Saturday.
Wesley trailed by as much as 11 points in the final frame before tying it up at 51 with 1:25 left in the game when Stacey O'Neale nailed a 3-pointer. St. Mary's stifled the Wesley comeback in the waning moments of the game, converting their free throws to outlast the Wolverines.
Shelby Johnson recorded her second double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 18 points and 12 rebounds. Johnson was 5-of-9 from the field and 8-of-13 from the charity stripe.
Monshea Newsome-Murray cleaned the glass well for Wesley from the guard position, reeling in 11 rebounds, all defensive boards. Newsome-Murray also added six steals, five points and four assists.
O'Neale netted nine points off the bench while Megan Shacklock chipped in with seven points and six rebounds.
Kyaira Priest led St. Mary's with 13 points.
The Wolverines return home on Wednesday when they host the Marymount Saints in a CAC contest. Game time from Wentworth Gymnasium is set for 6 p.m.
