SALISBURY, Md. – The Wesley College women's basketball team stumbled on the road, 59-40 against the Salisbury Sea Gulls in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) contest on Wednesday.
Wesley held the narrow lead over Salisbury 13-12 in the first quarter but were unable to maintain the momentum. Wesley did show the tenacity on the offensive glass, outrebounding Salisbury at a 16-12 clip.
Monshea Newsome-Murray and Tiyanna Gibbs tallied double figures for Wesley. Newsome-Murray scored a game-high 16 points on 8-of-19 shooting. Newsome-Murray also added five rebounds and three steals. Gibbs notched 10 points and seven rebounds.
Shelby Johnson reeled in a game-best 14 rebounds in the loss. It was Johnson's sixth 10-plus rebound game of the year and her fourth consecutive.
Kaylyn French led Salisbury with 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Wolverines will return home on Saturday for the start of a three-game homestand when they host the Southern Virginia Knights. Tip-off for the CAC game from Wentworth Gymnasium is set for 1 p.m.
