Newsome-Murray sets new career-high point total against Southern Virginia

DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College women's basketball team fell 78-67 at home to the Southern Virginia Knights on Saturday in a Capital Athletic Conference contest.

Monshea Newsome-Murray netted a career-high 33 points on 11-of-21 from the field and 11-of-16 from the charity stripe. Newsome-Murray eclipsed her previous career-best of 20 points in her collegiate debut against Southern Virginia on Nov. 17, 2015. Newsome-Murray also reeled in nine rebounds, stole the ball seven times and dished out three assists.

Tiyanna Gibbs and Stacey O'Neale each tallied 13 points respectively in the loss. Gibbs pulled down nine rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Off the bench, Megan Shacklock recorded seven rebounds while Paige Hailstock notched five rebounds.

Katie Garrish had 26 points and 14 rebounds for Southern Virginia.

The Wolverines will be back in action this Wednesday, Jan. 24 when they host the Lions of Penn St.-Harrisburg. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
