Dover, Del. – The Women's basketball team opened their 2019-20 season Friday, November 8 at King's College, falling by the score of 83-39. The team was led by sophomore returner Angelique Gathers who scored 21 on the night as well as freshman guard Zariyah Jackson who pulled down a team high 10 rebounds.
"With only four returners from last season and 5 new additions, we are going to go through some growing pains early, but when the fall sports finish up with their successful seasons we will have both experienced help as well as added depth." said 14th-year head coach James Wearden. "We have great leadership in returning junior guard Lekeshia Brown-Myrik and sophomore forward SherVohnia Tolson."
Joining Gathers, Brown-Myrick and Tolson are returning guard Katelyn Watson as well as junior forward Megan Shacklock. Newcomers on the team joining Jackson will be senior post players Sharee Halstead and Jourdyn Beverly, senior forward Brianna Bacon, junior guards Bianca Newsom and Jada Simon, sophomore guard Gabriell Keogh and freshman forward MacKenzie Bender.
"Once we get everyone here and back in basketball shape we should be very competitive. Right now we are just really young in basketball with so many first year players but we will grow out of that. Everyone is working hard being positive and excited to be out there.
