Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Wesley Women's Basketball team swept Medgar Evers for the second night in a row, 52-34. Angelique Gathers led the Wolverines with 13 points and 11 rebounds, 10 of which were defensive. Lekeshia Brown-Myrick finished close behind with 10 points, six steals and three assists. Also adding a significant amount of points to the win was Zariyah Jackson with nine.
The first half of the game Wesley and Medgar Evers traded points until Wesley was able to maintain a strong 22-14 lead with two minutes left. Jackson started off scoring for the Wolverines the second half off a steal from SherVohnia Tolson, allowing her to pull off the 3-pointer to put the Wolverines up 27-18.
The Wolverines continued to increase the lead this time, 39-26, going into the fourth and final quarter. The Wolverines maintained possession for most of the fourth, ending the game on a free throw by Sharee Halstead to take the win 52-34.
Wesley shot 33.9 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from behind the arc and 29.4 percent from the free throw line.
The team will continue their road games as they head to St. Mary's on Wednesday, Dec. 11 for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off, before returning home one last time this semester to play Cairn on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
