BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Wesley College won its third straight contest, outscoring Bryn Mawr 8-3 in the second half to come from behind for the 12-9 win on the road.
The Wolverines (5-5) jumped to a 2-1 lead less than four minutes into the game after Leslie Cervenka (Newtown, Pa./Pennsbury) assisted on goals by Stephanie Bailey (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) and Katelyn Randes (Odenton, Md/Arundel). The Owls (2-3), however, scored four straight goals, including two by Natalie Chrismer to claim a 5-2 advantage.
After the two teams traded goals, Cervenka scored with just nine seconds left in the half to cut Bryn Mawr's lead to 6-4.
Jade Martin (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May Regional) opened the scoring in the second half with a free position shot with 27:15 to play, but Mae Carlson got the lead back to two for the Owls just under five minutes later.
Wesley took command of the game with goals by Randes, Amanda Browning (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) and Bailey for an 8-7 lead with 16:51 to go. Bryn Mawr tied the game on a Liza Horowitz score with 14:20 remaining.
The Wolverines again scored three straight goals to put the game away. Randes scored back-to-back goals and Cervenka made it 11-8 with 7:30 to play. Cara Sogliuzzo cut it to 11-9, but Cervenka scored with just 1:33 left on the clock to seal the win.
Bailey had a stellar all-around effort. The sophomore scored three goals and added an assist to go along with five ground balls, three draw controls and six caused turnovers.
Brooke Bennett (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) also stood out on defense with seven ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
Randes led all players with four goals in the game. She matched Cervenka, who had three goals and two assists, for game-high honors with five points.
Farryn Kauffman (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) stopped 11 shots in goal for the win.
Chrismer scored three times for the Owls. Caroline Heffernan caused four turnovers.
Goalkeeper Miranda Gordon-Zigel had six ground balls and made 12 saves.
Wesley will look to stay in the win column when Shenandoah visits Dr. Scott D. Miller Stadium on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 PM.
