YORK, Pa. - Jade Martin (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May Regional) became Wesley College's all-time points leader, but York (Pa.) closed the game with a 5-1 run to claim a 16-10 win over the Wolverines in Capital Athletic Conference play.
Martin finished the game with 162 career points, passing the old record of 160 by Laura MacDougall.
The Spartans jumped ahead 3-0 before Stephanie Bailey (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) scored the first of her four goals on the afternoon with 17:49 left in the period. After York received a goal from Megan Bell, Martin set the record with her first goal of the game and 40th of the season. In addition to setting the scoring record, the goal also made Martin just the second player in school history with multiple 40 goal seasons, along with MacDougall.
Ashley Kanzer scored back-to-back goals as the Spartans extended the lead to 6-2. Bailey added her second goal before Bell scored with just 28 seconds left in the half for a 7-3 halftime lead.
Kanzer again scored back-to-back goals in the second half to put the Spartans ahead 11-5 with 20:39 to go in the game.
York (Pa.), however, scored and own goal that was the first of four straight goals for the Wolverines. Goals by Leslie Cervenka (Newtown, Pa./Pennsbury), Alyssa Prudente (Hereford, Md./Hereford) and Bailey brought Wesley to within two goals at 11-9 with 16:40 left.
A free position shot by Molly Kerrigan less than three minutes later sparked the Spartans 5-1 run to end the game, featuring three scores by Bell.
In addition to her four goals, Bailey also had three ground balls, four draw controls and caused a pair of turnovers.
Bell finished the game with six goals and Kanzler added five. Bell also led all players with five ground balls, six draw controls and three caused turnovers.
Wesley concludes its season on April 15 with a home match against Penn State Abington.
