SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Wesley scored the game's final five goals - including three by Alyssa Prudente (Hereford, Md./Hereford) - but Swarthmore held on for a 13-10 win in non-conference women's lacrosse.
The Wolverines (5-5) jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind a goal and an assist by Stephanie Bailey (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) in the opening four minutes. Bailey scored the game's first goal, then assisted on a Jen Jacobs (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) score with 25:57 left in the first half.
The Garnet (6-2), however, outscored Wesley 11-1 over the remainder of the half to take an 11-3 advantage into the intermission behind four goals Marie Mutryn.
Bailey and Prudente each scored their second goals of the evening to cut it to 11-6 with 23:23 to go in the game, but back-to-back Swarthmore goals stetched the lead back to seven eight minutes later.
An Amy Vachal goal with 15:37 on the clock was the last Wesley would allow, however, as the Wolverines tightened up on defense and scored five straight goals to close the game.
Prudente finished the evening with a career-high five goals. In addition to her two goals and one assist, Bailey added three caused turnovers. Brooke Bennett (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) paced the club with five ground balls.
Goalkeeper Alyssa Batty (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) stopped eight shots.
Swarthmore's Mutryn matched Prudente for game-high honors with five goals of her own. Annelise Mowry added three goals and Vachal chipped in with a pair. Beth Martin led all players with eight ground balls.
Allison Grein made 16 saves for the Garnet.
Wesley takes the weekend off before heading to Rosemont for a non-conference match up on April 5.
