Defense Powers Wesley Past Rosemont
ROSEMONT, Pa. - Wesley College limited Rosemont to just one goal and just 11 shots as the Wolverines picked up a 14-1 win on the road in non-conference women's lacrosse.
Wesley scored the game's first 14 goals - by 12 different players - and no player had more than two scores in the contest.
Alyssa Prudente (Hereford, Md./Hereford) opened the scoring just over two and a half minutes into the contest with her only tally of the afternoon. Less than a minute later, Nina Cornog (Wilmington, Del./Concord) got the first of her two goals of the half to put Wesley ahead 2-0 with 26:54 to go in the first period.
The Wolverines found the back of the net four more times in the next three minutes to blow the game open and led 9-0 at the half.
Cornog and Stephanie Bailey (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) had two goals apiece in the game, while Bailey also had three draw controls. Prudente and Jen Jacobs (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) each had a goal and an assist. Brooke Bennett (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) had an assist, four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
Alyssa Batty (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) shut out the Ravens (0-5) in the first half, making three saves. Amanda Hudson (Frederica, Del./St. Thomas More) nearly did the same in the second half, stopping a pair of second half shots before Elizabeth Kemp scored Rosemont's only goal of the day with less than a minute to play.
Chatiera Wiggins and Simone Green split time in net for Rosemont. Wiggins stopped just one Wesley shot in the first half, while Green made a pair of saves in the second half.
Wesley will look to stay in the win column on April 7 when Lancaster Bible visits Scott D. Miller Stadium.
