FREDICKSBURG, Va. – Wesley College's women's lacrosse team scored the first goal of the game but #17 Mary Washington scored the next eight and went on to defeat the Wolverines, 16-4 on Saturday afternoon. Wesley's record evens up at 1-1 while the Eagles improve to 2-1.
Jen Jacobs scored her first of three goals on the day at the 27:22 mark of the first half to give the Wolverines an early 1-0 lead. The lead was short lived as the Eagles tied it up just over a minute later and took their first advantage 20 seconds later.
Jacobs would add two more scores, both on assists from Alyssa Prudente, before the half ended as UMW went into halftime up 11-3. Prudente tallied the first goal in the second half but Mary Washington closed the game on a 5-0 run.
Nina Cornog recorded a team-high three draw controls for the Wolverines while Kaylee Miller and Elizabeth Groom caused two turnovers each. Prudente and Jessica Franklin both tallied three ground balls.
Alyssa Batty stopped 18 shots in goal for Wesley.
The Navy & White are back in action on March 2 when they travel to Neumann for a 4 pm start.
