Women’s Lacrosse Falls In Season Opener

DOVER, Del. – Despite a game-high six points from Jen Jacobs, the Wesley College women's lacrosse team fell to Neumann University, 11-7, on Wednesday night at Scott D. Miller Stadium in the 2013 season opener.  Jacobs tallied three goals and three assists on the night.

Wesley held a one-goal lead on a pair of occasions in the first half on scores by Kirsten Ward and Mia Brocco, both of which were assisted by Jacobs, but 30 turnovers led to several more opportunities for the Knights. Brocco scored a pair of goals in her first game back from an injury that made her miss the 2012 season.

With the score tied at four with 7:47 left in the first half on a score from Jessica Franklin, Neumann scored twice in 25 seconds to take a two-goal lead into the half.  Jacobs tied the game quickly on a pair of goals that were assisted by Nina Cornog with just over 20 minutes left to play.

Neumann then went on a 5-1 run to close out the game, including a pair of scores just 15 seconds apart by Amanda Fedak and Koula Gregor.  Fedak recorded a hat trick on the day for NU.

Defensively, Jorden Lutz caused four turnovers for Wesley and also had a team-high three ground balls.  Alyssa Batty kept the Wolverines in the game by making 15 saves.

With seven combined draw controls from Franklin and Tristin Burris, Wesley held an 11-9 advantage in the category.

The Wolverines return to action on Saturday, February 23, when they host Merchant Marine in a 4 pm start.
