BALTIMORE, Md. – Jen Jacobs matched her career high in goals (6) and points (7) while setting a new school record for career goals in Wesley College's women's lacrosse, 13-11 victory at Notre Dame (Md.) on Thursday afternoon. The Wolverines improve to 6-8 on the year while the gators fall to 4-4.
Needing just two goals to tie Laura MacDougall's mark of 145 career goals, Jacobs tied the mark, as well as the game at three, with 19:45 left in the first half on an assist from Nina Cornog, her second of a career-high six assists on the day. After a score by Kirsten Ward with an assist by Rylee Gould but Wesley on top for the first time of the game, Mia Brocco found Jacobs for the record-breaking goal shortly after.
Cornog found Brocco for two-straight goals to give Wesley a 7-5 lead but the Gators responded with two of their own as the Wolverines were clinging to a 7-5 halftime lead. Notre Dame opened the second half with three unanswered goals to go back on top 8-7 with 18:22 left in regulation but Jacobs tied the game back up just over a minute later.
Goals by Jessica Franklin and another by Jacobs gave the Wolverines a 10-8 lead but the Gators fought back one again, tying the score at ten with 11:45 left to play.
Jacobs, who now has 149 goals in her career, then put Wesley back on top for good and she was followed up with two more scores from Franklin to seal the victory.
Cornog finished with a career-high seven points as well for the Wolverines and tied with Jorden Lutz for a team-high two caused turnovers. Lutz and Tristin Burris both were credited with three ground balls while Alyssa Batty made six saves in the victory.
Alli Terry recorded seven goals for the Gators while Emily Langton made six saves.
The Wolverines are back in action on April 20, when they host York (Pa.) at 1 pm.
