Women’s Lacrosse Wins Pair of Spring Break Games

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Wesley College's women's lacrosse team came away from its spring break trip with victories over Manhattanville and New England College on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.  The Wolverines now stand at 4-1 on the season and have won four-straight games for the first time since the 2009 season.

Against Manhattanville, Allison Perugini and Mckenzie Marvel both notched hat tricks with three goals and one assist while Kaitlin Brennan tallied a team-high five points on two goals and three assists. Rylee Gould (1g, 3a) and Kaitlyn Ennis (2g, 2a) also recorded four points each.

Savannah Clough was credited with 15 saves in the victory while Victoria Hayes caused five turnovers.

Wesley never trailed against the Valiants, taking a 3-0 lead less than five minutes in with Marvel finding the back of the net twice during the stretch.  Manhattanville responded with two-straight goals but once again the Wolverines ran off another three-straight, this time by three different goal scorers and went into the half with a 7-5 lead.

Manhattanville cut the deficit to a single goal just 1:07 into the second half but Francesca Benitez stopped the bleeding with a goal, followed by scores from Brennan and Ennis, sending the lead back to four goals with 17:09 left in regulation.

The Valiants got one back 90 seconds later but Wesley shut the door with six-straight goals over the next 12 minutes to seal the victory.

The following day against New England College, Brennan scored five goals and added a pair of assists while Marvel scored four times along with one assist.

Clough made another nine stops in the win.

The Wolverines open Capital Athletic Conference action at Christopher Newport on Saturday, March 14 at 1 pm.
