NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Wesley College's women's lacrosse team dropped its Capital Athletic Conference opener at Christopher Newport, 21-1, on Saturday afternoon. The loss snaps the Wolverines' win streak at four games and drops Wesley to 4-2 overall while the Captains move to 4-3 on the year.
Rylee Gould scored the lone goal for the Wolverines who were outshot, 36-8, on the day. Gould found the back of the net with 23:18 left in the first half to cut Christopher Newport's lead to 2-1. The Captains scored 13-straight before the half to take a 15-1 lead at the break.
Kaitlin Brennan led Wesley with three ground balls and also caused a pair of turnovers. Her two draw controls were second to Rodneisha Scott's three. Jessica Giaccone was also credited with three draw controls.
Freshman goalkeeper Savannah Clough stopped six shots in the loss.
The Wolverines return to action on Wednesday, March 18, when they travel for a 7 pm draw at Misericordia.
