DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's women's lacrosse team dropped a Capital Athletic Confernce game to Mary Washington, 18-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Scott D. Miller Stadium. The Wolverines now stand at 5-10 overall with an 0-7 mark in the CAC while the Eagles move to 8-7 on the year and 3-4 in league play.
Mary Washington scored the first four goals of the game coming in the first four-plus minutes but Wesley hung in there, scoring two of the next three, cutting the deficit to 5-2 with 15:44 left in the first half. The Eagles then closed the period on a 5-0 run to take a 10-2 halftime lead, and extended the advantage to 16-2 before Rylee Gould scored on a free position with 15:33 left in regulation.
The Eagles scored twice more before the final horn to take the victory.
Gould led the Wolverines with a goal and an assist while Savannah Clough stopped 12 shots in goal. Gould also matched Jessica Giaccone with a team-high three ground balls while Giaccone caused two turnovers. Kaitlin Brennan also controlled four draws.
Three different Eagles tallied five points with Holly Hudson recording four goals.
The Wolverines host Southern Virginia in the season finale on Saturday, April 18 at 3 pm. Gould, Giaccone and Stephanie Blakely will be honored in a pregame ceremony as the trio will be playing in their final collegiate games.
