READING, Pa. - The Wesley College Women's Lacrosse team fell to a 14-4 defeat at Alvernia University on Saturday in a non-conference tilt. The Wolverines kept it close in the first half, but fell victim to a late run as the Crusaders pulled away.
Allison Perugini, Bailey Olds, Fallon Fore, and Brianna Bacon each scored for the Wolverines while Summer Stone and Olds each recorded an assist. Fore led the team with four ground balls while Francesca Benitez recorded a team-high two caused turnovers. Rodneisha Scott earned a pair of draw controls to lead the Wolverines. Savannah Clough made 13 saves, recording double-digit saves in her sixth gamee of the year but took the loss.
Wesley fell behind 2-0 in the first minute of play, but the Wolverines bounced back with a score from Olds. Alvernia netted another to make it 3-1, but just 19 seconds later Summer Stone picked up a loose ground ball and dished it to Allison Perugini for a goal to make it a one-goal game. Brianna Bacon kept things close later in the frame with her sixth score of the year, but Alvernia scored the final two goals of the first half to take a 6-3 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Crusaders took over scoring seven straight to open the period. Wesley was held scoreless until the 8:45 mark when Olds found Fore for a goal. Alvernia added another before time expired as the home team earned the 14-4 victory.
Wesley moves to 2-7 on the season and will travel to Mary Washington on Wednesday, March 30 to take on the Eagles in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup.
