FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Wesley College Women's Lacrosse team took on one of the nation's top teams on Wednesday night but fell 18-3 at the hands of University of Mary Washington in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup.
Bailey Olds, Foley Wassmuth, and Allison Perugini finished with the Wolverine goals on the evening. Perugini also picked up a caused turnover and a ground ball. Taylor Speicher led all Wolverines with four ground balls and recorded a caused turnover as well. Savannah Clough finished with eight saves, two ground balls and a caused turnover in net for the Wolverines.
Wesley's first tally came in the first half, their only score of the frame. While playing in a man-down situation, the Wolverine offense generated a scoring opportunity. On a transition play Fallon Fore found Bailey Olds for a goal to put the Navy and White on the board. The freshman-to-freshman connection was Wesley's only first half score as they went into halftime trailing 11-1.
In the second half, both Wassmuth and Perugini netted goals. Wassmuth's goals came in a man-up situation while Perugini scored later in the game at even strength. Wesley was limited to just seven shots on goal and went scoreless on a pair of free-position opportunities.
The Wolverines move to 2-8 on the season with an 0-3 mark in the CAC. The squad will host St. Mary's in another conference game on Saturday, April 2.
