DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College Women's Lacrosse team battled the elements but took a tough loss on Saturday afternoon, falling 16-2 to Frostburg State in the rain, hail, sleet, and snow at Drass Field.
Fallon Fore and Ashley Luna provided the only offense for the Wolverines, scoring one goal apiece. Bailey Olds registered an assist on the day as well. Francesca Benitez pulled down a pair of draw controls while Summer Stone finished with a pair of caused turnovers. Savannah Clough made 15 saves, caused a pair of turnovers and scooped a team-high five ground balls.
Wesley spotted the Bobcats a 2-0 lead but netted their first goal just 1:32 into the game. Francesca Benitez won the draw and fed the ball ahead to Bailey Olds. Olds collected the pass and lobbed the ball over the Frostburg defense to Fallon Fore who beat the keeper to make it 2-1.
The flash of offense was Wesley's only score of the first half as the visitors took a 13-1 lead into the halftime break. Clough made 10 saves in the first half, doing all she could to keep the Bobcats off the board.
In the second half, the Wesley defense stepped up holding Frostburg to just three scores. The Wolverine offense remained dormant though. It took the Navy and White until the 6:49 mark to find the net again. Ashley Luna went to goal and scored to give the Wolverines' their second goal of the game, but it was the only second half tally the team could muster as they fell 16-2.
Wesley moves to 2-11 on the season and will close their year with three games on the road. The team will travel to Salisbury on Wednesday, April 13.
