BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Wesley College Women's Lacrosse team finished their season on a high note, earning a Capital Athletic Conference victory over Southern Virginia University on Saturday, beating the Knights 16-7.
Brianna Bacon scored a team-high four goals while Maddison Cypher netted three and dished out an assist. Rodneisha Scott finished with a goal and two assists for Wesley. Alexis Galloway, Allison Perugini, and Paige Brehm each scored two apiece while Bailey Olds and Fallon Fore each netted one. Savannah Clough made 12 saves in net to earn the win. Cypher, Bacon, and Ashley Luna each registered a team-high seven ground balls on the day.
Wesley opened the game on a tear, scoring the first three goals of the contest and holding the Knights scoreless through the first 16 minutes. The Navy and White closed out the first half by outscoring SVU 9-1 to take an eight-goal advantage into the break.
In the second half, the Knights surged back with a handful of goals to cut the Wesley lead to 12-6. Wesley scored four straight goals in the final 11 minutes to advance their lead to 16-6 and lock up the victory.
The win improved the Wolverines' record to 3-12 on the year and gave them their first conference win, improving their CAC mark to 1-7 on the season. The Navy and White will graduate seniors Khadijah Sanders and Summer Stone, but return a strong nucleus from this year's roster and look forward to the 2017 season.
